<\/figure>\n\n\n\nWe are gearing up for summer by planting a dye garden and\ncreating an outdoor dye studio. We may\nhave more seedlings than we have space, and we are willing to share if you want\nto augment what we have growing here. Our\nmadder root is in the 4th<\/sup> year, and we harvested roots last fall,\nwhich we will be using soon. We have started seeds for indigo plants\u2026over 100,\nmore than we have ever done\u2026..and they are up and growing. We also will plant dyers coreopsis, which is\na perennial. So we will have quantity of\nred (madder root), yellow (coreopsis) and blue (indigo). We also will grow Black hollyhocks, amaranth,\nand more. We are thinking we will do several natural dye workshops over the\nsummer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We are also introducing our apprentice, Emily, who just completed\nher master\u2019s degree at the University of Wisconsin and will be here May through\nOctober as an apprentice. She will be\ntaking classes on herbal plants. She\ncomes excited to learn more about fiber art, sheep, and gardening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Olivia is another summer helper, planning to be here one or\ntwo days a week. Olivia is just\ngraduating from Colby College. She is an\navid knitter and spinner who wants to learn more about farming, keeping sheep, dyeing,\nand fiber creations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n We now have our daughter, Kim, and grand-daughter Macie living\nhere. They are raising Labrador puppies\nthat are now just 2 weeks old. Kim and\nMacie will be adding to our farmers market with goat milk soap, sweet maple\nproducts and maybe some baked goods. \nThey will help to run our farmers\u2019 market in Bethel, nurture our\ngardens, and care for our animals. Baby lambs are growing fast and today we\nstarted some grazing of green grass. <\/p>\n\n\n\n We are thrilled to have such a talented team of women here\nover the summer!<\/strong> We are looking\nforward to having more fiber folks on the farm as more people are vaccinated\nfor COVID. The warmer weather is here so we can enjoy being outside safely\ndistanced with our farm and fiber community. \n<\/p>\n\n\n\n Bethel Farmers Market starts: May 22 9am-1pm<\/p>\n\n\n\n Zoom Knitting continues Tuesdays from 1-4pm until we are\nconfident that the weather is warm enough to be outside to knit.
